ENHANCING RADIO BROADCASTING AMID INSECURITY IN NORTH-WEST, NIGERIA

Abstract:
This paper delves into radio coverage as an avenue for disseminating information and
fostering community resilience amidst the prevailing insecurity. The study investigates the
present state of radio coverage in Nigeria. The study concludes that capacity building within
the broadcasting sector are put forth to strengthen the resilience of radio coverage in the face
of security challenges. Radio must set agenda and allocate designated periods and designated
programme for the dissemination of information regarding acts of terrorism, banditry, and
other criminal activities that have the potential to instil a sense of insecurity. Also, radio
stations should guide against reporting stories that can heat the polity and report only stories
that promote security within and among the affected areas.
